Virtual Harvest 2022
Welcome
Welcome to our virtual hop harvest. We’re excited to offer brewers and beer lovers around the world an opportunity to get to know our business and the team behind our hops.
The Fascination with Fresh Hop Beers
Brewers make beer year-round, but there’s something special about March. Every harvest, green hops are picked from the bine and sent straight to breweries across the eastern seaboard of Australia for immediate addition to fresh hop beers.
Guest Speaker
Reid Stratton,
Head Brewer,
Bright Brewery
Reid is a former baker with a wealth of international brewing experience. He loves the transformative process of fermentation, taking raw materials and turning them into something beautiful and nuanced.
Guest Speaker
David Stokie,
Brewer,
Bright Brewery
David is a former homebrewer who was inspired to become a commercial brewer after attending Bright Brewery’s Brewer For A Day experience. He then headed off to South Australia to get his brewing qualification before returning to where the dream began.
Toward a Carbon Neutral Future of Beer
Integrating sustainable practices into a business strategy is mission critical in today’s environment. Together with our industry partners, we’re pushing the boundaries of efficiency and innovation.
Guest Speaker
Justin Merrell,
Group Environment Director,
Lion
Justin has a Chemical Engineering Degree and a Masters in Environmental Management. He is responsible for setting Lion’s environment strategy that focuses on carbon, sustainable packaging, and water stewardship.

Victorian Farm Tour
Our Victorian hop farms sit in the foothills of Mount Buffalo where the days are long, the soil is rich and the water is abundant. Take a look around, learn about the farms’ connection to the Gold Rush, and meet the team behind our crop.
From Hop Discovery to Beer Recipe Design
Our hop breeding program generates new cultivars of interest every year. We work closely with brewing customers who have the skills and facilities to provide valuable hop sensory data to determine which cultivars should be considered for commercialisation.
Guest Speaker
Ben Kraus,
Owner,
Bridge Road Brewers
Since establishing Bridge Road Brewers in 2005, Ben has built a reputation for making beers with strong hop content without being extreme, educating countless beer drinkers on how important hops are to creating flavour in beer.
Guest Speaker
James Dittko,
Head Brewer,

James has experimented with many different hops and come up with a number of distinctive creations. He believes once you understand the science and how various chemicals react you know exactly what you can and can’t add to a beer.
Thank You
Thank you for watching our virtual hop harvest. We hope it leaves you feeling like you know us, our hops, our farms and our processes a little better.

Discover Tasmania
There’s a wild little island at the end of the world where people come to leave the chaos of city life behind. It’s worth taking the time to see what else our Tasmanian growing region has to offer.
Welcome
Welcome to our virtual hop harvest. We’re excited to offer brewers and beer lovers around the world an opportunity to get to know our business and the team behind our hops.
Brewing with Green Hops
The opportunity to brew with green hops only comes around once a year. Follow the crew from Hobart Brewing Company as they collect whole, wet cones from the farm and hurry them back to the brewery in pursuit of fresh, vibrant flavours and aromas characteristic of green hop beers. They’ll also join us live to discuss the challenges of brewing with green hops and how they overcome them.
Guest Speaker
Scott Overdorf,
Co-founder and Head Brewer,
Hobart Brewing Co
Scott loves making beer. He sees hop harvest as a rare chance to tell a great story about the provenance and unpredictability of green hops in the brewery, and give beer drinkers a new sensory experience every year.
Forward Contracting
Forward contracts are a critical part of securing your future hop supply and protecting your brewery from market volatility. We consider the importance of forward contracts from the perspective of a hop grower and a brewer, as well as sharing some techniques you can use to forward contract responsibly.
Guest Speaker
David Baxter,
Group Manager of Procurement,
Asahi Premium Beverages
David has been in the industry for over 20 years. He has a real passion for understanding the supply chain process from end to end, and improving it wherever possible.
Meet Eclipse®
We’re proud to introduce our newest proprietary hop to the brewing world. Eclipse®, formerly known as experimental variety HPA-016, is bursting with sweet mandarin, zesty citrus peel and fresh pine needles.
Guest Speaker
Cornel Ianculovici,
Co-founder and Brewer,
Shambles Brewery
Cornel began homebrewing while studying at university, and it slowly but surely took over his life. After suffering a ‘beer life crisis’ he embarked on a career change, from science teacher to brewer.
Maximising Fruity Hop Flavours in Beer
Fruit-forward styles have taken the modern beer world by storm. Both hop growers and brewers can work to maximise fruity flavours and aromas in beer by better understanding several key classes of hop compounds and how they behave through the brewing process.
Guest Speaker
Tim Matthews,
Vice-President of Global Brewing,
Canarchy
An 11 year veteran of Oskar Blues, Tim now holds a loftier title. He is focused on improving everything from product innovation to sourcing ingredients and improving the connection between brewers and growers.
Quality Assurance
We take pride in our hops, and the beers our customers create with them. That’s why we have a no-nonsense Quality Management System in place that is ISO 9001:2015 and HACCP certified. Discover what our certifications mean, and the steps we take to guarantee quality in the final package.
